The pct blood test is used as an aid in the assessment and evaluation of patients Suspected of bacterial infection, trauma or shock. PCT is apeptide precursorof the hormone calcitonin, the latter being involved with calcium homeostasis.It is composed of 116 amino acks and is produced by parafollicular cells (C cells) of the thyroid and by the neuroendocrine calls of the lung and the intestine. Procalcitonin test measures how much procalcitonin is in your blood. The procalcitonin normal range in adults is less than 0.1 ng/mL.
